Book Launch for The Parallel Project
Momentum 180 Theatre Collective is celebrating The Parallel Project's inaugural monologue collection published by Playwrights Canada Press! The book launch will feature introductions from editors & producers Argel Monte de Ramos and Jocelyn Tsui, as well as monologue excerpt readings from select playwrights. The book will be available for purchase and signing, and all proceeds will go towards future Parallel Project programs. There will be snacks and a cash bar.
The Parallel Project was co-founded by Argel Monte de Ramos and Jocelyn Tsui in 2020 as a means of creating more monologues by and for IBPOC and racialized artists. The book is the culmination of five years of monologue writing workshops produced by Momentum 180 in partnership with Playwrights Theatre Centre and The Cultch. A perfect resource for post-secondary theatre programs, acting classes, and artists looking for pieces that parallel their own lived experience, it features 22 monologues written by Vancouver-based IBPOC and racialized emerging playwrights, including Ariane Anindita Anantaputri, Natasha Chew, Francis Dowlatabadi, Marco Esccer, Ashleigh Giffen, Winona Gillera, Sewit Eden Haile, Meghna Haldar, Valentine Ho, Trinity Jade, Keira Jang, elika mojtabaei الیکا مجتبایی, Anahita Monfared, Argel Monte de Ramos, Claudine Paed, Meesh QX, Todd Simmons, Peihwen J. Tai, Margarita Tellez España, Jocelyn Tsui, Cole Vandale, and Jiejun Wu, with dramaturgical support from Davey Samuel Calderon, Adonis Critter King, Anjela Magpantay, and Lili Robinson.
